Gareth McGivern, from Rostrevor joins the Mourne Mountains Brewery after leaving his career in the financial services industry.
Gareth is a Craft Beer enthusiast and part of the National Homebrew Club, he has been brewing for over 5 years – “Gareth has a lot of knowledge and interest in the industry and we are delighted to have him as part of our team” says Mourne Mountains Brewery Head Brewer Tom Ray.
Gareth is ‘hoppy’ to be joining the team as an Assistant Brewer and will be supporting Head Brewer Tom in producing a range of top quality beers along with other areas. Gareth has stated that he is looking forward to “being creative and working in a hands-on environment.”
Gareth is a local lad who grew up in the Mournes and he believes that he has landed his dream job. He wants to go back to his roots and work for a local business and looks forward to making local beer using water sourced from Spelga.
Brewery Founder Connaire McGreevy added “We were overwhelmed with interest in the job, something I haven’t seen since the last recession in terms of numbers applying.
“Gareth was the stand out candidate and I am delighted to welcome him to Mourne Mountains Brewery.
“It is a big change in career for Gareth moving from the financial services sector, but I have no doubt his thirst for developing local beers will match that of mine for a good pale ale.”

Tom Ray, Head Brewer welcomed Gareth to the team too adding that he is looking forward to “working closely with Gareth and guiding him through some professional qualifications”.
