Not to be missed is Odin’s Call Concert at 8.30pm on Saturday 11th May. Travel the Scandinavian fjords with the songs of Nytt Land.

The Viking Experience runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th May. An individual Day pass is £5, Family day pass (2 adults, 3 children) is £10.

Families are invited to the largest medieval event on the island of Ireland. With longships (as used in the TV series Vikings) on the river Bann, a huge Viking encampment, over 170 reenactors, 20 Viking children, and warriors battling both days, you will be taking a 1000 year step back in time.

The Pleasure Gardens beside The Meadows Shopping Centre, Portadown provides a flat green with the Bann flowing slowly alongside where the Viking families will live in almost 60 authentic canvas tents and moor their longships on the river.

This is a truly family event for both the Vikings and the public to come and see. Children will be taught how to build a shield wall and learn sword skills, or choose to learn how Viking ladies used to knit and sew.

Watch warriors battle, row Viking longships, try real armour and weapons, learn crafts and skills.

Event organiser Paul Kavanagh says “More than 40 tents will be traders or displays of goods made using the same techniques as were used 1000 years ago – these folks are fanatical about what they do.

“As well as Viking reenactors from as far as Cork to Ballyclare, others are coming from Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, France and England.
“The market traders list is 40 long and very impressive by any standards. No junk, plastic or such – everything is hand made to the very highest standards, in wood, silver, bronze, leather, wool, linen etc replicating designs and materials from a past age.”

“It goes on and on, too much to mention here.”
