Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust

Colin Bell of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust gave a moving background to the establishment of the Trust and how it had developed since 2013. “Our son Kevin was killed in New York on Sunday 16 June 2013 and we needed to bring him home. By the Tuesday £42,000 had been raised, increasing to £62,000 by the Thursday of that week. In total £150,000 was raised. Kevin’s employers funded the cost of bringing him home, so we registered as a charity to help others in similar situations to ourselves,.

“In year one we were able to help repatriate 26 people and 46 in year two. Now we are registered with every Consulate across the world and to date have brought home 330 people.

“Fundraising takes place in Australia, New York and support from within the Newry area has been fantastic. Thank you Greater Newry Business Network and everyone involved in the event.”

The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body (bodies) of loved ones who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland. To discover more about the KBRT visit their website

Head Injury Support

Anne Murphy of Head Injury Support expressed thanks to GNBN for organizing the Charity Golf Classic and all those who supported the event. “We volunteer as marshals for various events to raise funds. To receive £2562.30 in one sum is massive to Head Injury Support. Thank you all.”

Head Injury Support began with a group of parents meeting locally and has now grown with its own shop on Kildare Street, Newry open from 11am to 4pm four days per week. A drop in Friday night from 7.30pm t o 10.30pm and a Big Night Out every other Saturday for carer’s and families.

Ann told the group “Head Injury Support exists to help those with Acquired Brain Injuries. It is the most inspiring place to work and a real privilege.

“Acquired Brain injury can be instantly life changing for the individual, their family and network of friends. Injury may occur through a variety of ways including falls, cycling accidents, road traffic incidents or illness. Personally I find most upsetting that acquired through violence.”

“We have secured a four year contract with the Southern Health and Social Care Trust to bring Outreach services to groups across a wider area including Armagh, Aughnacloy, Craigavon and Dromore. “

“Our members have benefited from local volunteer teaching various crafts helping members regain self worth and some now able to work from home.”
